'Disciplined' - Manchester United stance on transfer market after latest financial results revealed

Man Utd have announced their latest set of financial results and this is what it means for the transfer window.

Manchester United sources believe they will be able to make a 'disciplined investment' in the summer transfer window after they posted their latest set of financial results on Friday afternoon.

United revealed they cut their wage bill by £20 million, from £91m to £71.2m, in the third quarter of the financial year, which will allow them to comply with the various spending rules and give them more room for investment in the transfer market. Those savings came through a combination of the staff who were made redundant, and the transfer exits sanctioned in the January window.

Jim Ratcliffe's cost-cutting measures saw 250 staff lose their jobs in the last round of redundancies, with a further 200 expected later this year. United also saved money when Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia left the club on loan, while they didn't have to pay Champions League bonuses due to their failure to qualify for the competition.

Manchester United set for summer spending spree

It is understood Manchester United gave Ruben Amorim an initial budget of roughly £100 million to work with in the summer transfer window, with other transfers set to be funded through extensive player sales.

United have already reached an agreement that will see Wolves star Matheus Cunha join for £62.5 million, while they are set to bid a similar amount to secure the services of Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo. United will pay for Cunha over three summers and hope to reach an agreement like that for Mbeumo as well.

Amorim has also prioritised the addition of a striker this summer, but United have missed out on their preferred target Liam Delap after he opted for a move to Chelsea. Viktor Gyokeres is viewed as the dream addition in central attack, though he won't come cheap and player sales will be required to fund a move.

Marcus Rashford is available for transfer after he spent the second-half of the season on loan with Aston Villa and Alejandro Garnacho has been told he is free to find a new club in the summer window. Jadon Sancho is back on the market after Chelsea did not trigger their obligation to buy him permanently and Antony is set to leave after he shone on loan with Real Betis.

United will release Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen when their respective deals expire at the end of the month and could also allow striker Rasmus Hojlund to leave this summer. There will be a focus on player sales after the pursuit of Mbeumo comes to an end.
