Manchester City willing to accept low transfer fee for sale of Jack Grealish after leaving him out of Club World Cup squad: Reports

close

Manchester City are willing to let Jack Grealish leave for just £40m this summer, according to The Sun. The Englishman's future at the Etihad has come under scrutiny amid rumors that he won't be part of the club's squad for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Grealish rose through the ranks at Aston Villa before establishing himself with the senior team. His efforts prompted the Cityzens to pay £100m for his signature in the summer of 2021.

However, the Englishman has failed to live up to the billing with Manchester City so far. Grealish has registered 17 goals and 23 assists from 157 games under Pep Guardiola to date.

He struggled for game time at the Etihad in the recently concluded season, managing just three goals and five assists from 32 games across competitions. Interestingly, only 16 of those were starts, suggesting that Guardiola no longer considers the Englishman a vital part of his plans.

The Cityzens have reportedly lost patience with the 29-year-old as well, and are now willing to let him go for a nominal fee this summer. Manchester City have already informed the player to look for a new club, and the player's representatives have also sprung into action. Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Everton and West Ham United are reportedly all interested in Grealish.

Will Jack Grealish leave Manchester City this summer to return to Aston Villa?

Jack Grealish

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O'Hara believes that Jack Grealish should leave Manchester City this summer to return to Aston Villa. Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, as cited by GOAL, O'Hara suggested that Grealish could be a replacement for Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio at Villa Park.

“I think he should go back to Aston Villa; what’s stopping him? The fans loved him; he was a maverick and the star boy in their team. The club have missed out on the Champions League next season, and Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio are both looking like they won’t be returning for another season," said O'Hara.

He continued:

"The perfect replacement for those two is Jack Grealish; I still believe he’s a top player. If he’s fit, he’s easily good enough to start for Villa, he’s a local lad and I don’t see a reason why they wouldn’t take him back – he’d cost a lot less than what Villa sold him to City for!”

Jack Grealish is under contract with Manchester City until 2027 and reportedly pockets £300,000 per year.

Inspired by Diego Maradona, Deepungsu played as an attacking midfielder for his local club at subdivision level in his initial years and scored an important goal or two. However, his all-time favorite footballer is Lionel Messi, and evidently, he feels Argentina's glory in 2022 is his favorite FIFA World Cup moment for fulfilling his long-standing dream. He is also an ardent East Bengal fan.

Despite believing in Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to create an iconic rivalry, Deepungsu reckons no one can match the longevity of Messi and Ronaldo. He spends his leisure time writing about life on his blog, reading books, and playing the guitar.
