Chelsea offered chance to sign West Ham star, initial player plus cash deal rejected - Chelsea News

Chelsea have been offered a surprise chance to sign West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus. The 24 year old Ghana international is available this summer, with West Ham looking for funds to reshuffle their squad after a disappointing campaign.

Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with West Ham enquiring about the availability of Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Sanchez previously worked under West Ham boss Graham Potter when the two were at Brighton.

SkySports has reported that Chelsea at this stage have not said no to the idea of signing the player and are considering whether or not a deal is feasible.

Kudus open to leaving West Ham

Kudus is set to leave West Ham this summer, as the Graham Potter looks to reshape his squad. The player’s age and form make him a moveable asset, and the player is believed to be aware of the situation.

West Ham have set an asking price of £70m for the player, nearly double the £38m they paid Ajax for him two years ago. An unnamed Saudi Pro League club were reportedly ready to meet this asking price, but the player rejected the move in hopes of remaining in Europe.

Kudus in fact turned down the chance of more than tripling his salary, as he still has ambitions to compete at the highest level. Clubs playing Champions League football are likely to be options for the Ghana star.

This is not the first time the player has been the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League, as Al Nassr failed with an £85m bid in early April due to a series of release clauses in the player’s contract.

Kudus is believed to have a £120m release clause specifically for Saudi Arabian clubs, and an £85m clause for Premier League clubs that is now active.

West Ham has also been offered players in part exchange, but are believed to be reluctant as that would increase their wage bill.

TalkSport has reported that Chelsea offered Robert Sanchez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall plus cash in a package to tempt West Ham into selling but the offer was rejected. Given West Ham’s interest in Sanchez specifically, there could be further negotiations between the clubs.

Chelsea are also monitoring the situation of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, and could be open to letting Sanchez go.
