Tebas says Ballon d’Or should be ‘between Yamal & Vini’

La Liga president Javier Tebas has been asked about the Ballon d’Or and thinks it should be awarded to either Lamine Yamal or Vinicius Jr.

Barcelona star Yamal is being tipped to land the prestigious prize, and Tebas has shared his opinion in a new interview at the ISDE Sports Convention

”It should be between Lamine Yamal or Vinicius,” he said.

“[Vinicius] hasn’t had a super season, but we mustn’t forget that he was very good at the beginning. Winning the Ballon d’Or is a season-long achievement, and he still has a few international matches and the Club World Cup left. Those two players are playing in Spain.”

Tebas went on to talk about Yamal and says the teenager’s emergence shows clubs don’t always need to spend big on superstars and should trust in youth instead.

“When they tell us that LaLiga isn’t signing players, I say that what we shouldn’t do is waste,” he added.

“This shows that when you trust in young players, and in the case of Barcelona we have it with Casadó, who was injured, Cubarsí, Lamine Yamal... you see it there. There’s no need to sign so many because many times you have the stars at home.”

Yamal and Vinicius aren’t the only players in the running for the Ballon d’Or. Raphinha, Pedri, Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe are also among the favourites.
