The Los Angeles Lakers could consider veteran center Steven Adams an ideal fit, but the Rockets are prioritizing his return in free agency.
The Los Angeles Lakers are in the market for a new center, and according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, Houston Rockets veteran big man Steven Adams would be an ideal fit. But landing him won't be easy.

The Rockets are making Adams a top offseason priority, with Iko reporting that Houston is focused on keeping the 31-year-old.
"The Rockets will need to address several key potential free agents on the roster," Iko wrote. "Veterans Steven Adams, Jeff Green, and Jae'Sean Tate will be unrestricted free agents as of June 30 — but of the trio, Adams is seen as the clear priority, team sources told The Athletic."
Adams, who missed the entire 2023-24 campaign due to a right knee injury, bounced back this season and became a key contributor in Ime Udoka's rotation down the stretch.
"This is the reason hammering out his future is arguably Houston's top priority," Iko added. "But because of his two-way production, particularly his elite offensive rebounding, the possibility of Adams being lured away by a playoff team exists.
"Adams, who earned $12.6 million last season, would be a natural fit for teams such as San Antonio, New York, Indiana, and both Los Angeles organizations."

Still, the Rockets reportedly believe Adams wants to stay and are continuing extension talks with his representatives.
Adams averaged 5.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in the 2025 NBA Playoffs over seven games before Houston's first-round exit.
During the regular season, he put up 3.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.5 blocks in 58 appearances, including three starts.
Adams could be signed for something close to the veteran minimum or the taxpayer mid-level exception (around $5.7 million). Possible contract ranges being discussed include two years at $11–12 million or three years at $15 million.
While Adams may no longer be a full-time starting center, his physical presence and rebounding still make him a valuable addition to any playoff contender.
