2025 PSR statement released by Manchester United

Manchester United’s summer rebuild is already underway, with Ruben Amorim eager to reshape his squad following a disappointing end to the season.

The Red Devils suffered heartbreak in Bilbao after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham, which also confirmed they’ll play no European football next season.

Despite that setback, United are moving aggressively in the transfer market, aiming to back their new manager with early business.

Their plans are not only ambitious but also bold, with Carrington’s redevelopment continuing at pace and discussions underway for a new 100 000-seater stadium that would transform the Old Trafford area.

There’s also a renewed focus on performance across the board, including a thriving women’s side that finished third in the WSL and secured Champions League football for next season.

And now, amid all the noise surrounding financial scrutiny, Manchester United have hit back at critics by confirming full compliance with both UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) and the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

This comes after the club published its financial results for the first quarter of 2025 which shows information relating to FFP and PSR.

The financial results revealed a 17.4% increase in revenue and a 20.4% drop in operating costs—largely thanks to staff reductions and a Champions League-related wage cut.

CEO Omar Berrada acknowledged the frustrations of the past season, particularly the underwhelming Premier League campaign, but highlighted progress behind the scenes.

“We have a clear expectation of improvement next season,” said Berrada.

“Our commitment to infrastructure and community regeneration remains steadfast.”

Berrada also hailed the women’s team for their performances and confirmed that head coach Marc Skinner had earned a new deal after leading the side to two major finals.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are pressing ahead with transfers, having already agreed a £62.5million fee for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

They are also in advanced negotiations with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, with the combined outlay expected to hit £120million.

The transfer activity has raised eyebrows, particularly after Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously warned the club was on track to run out of cash by the end of 2025.

But with improved financials and “disciplined investment” in players, United have assured fans and regulators alike that their ambitions remain firmly within legal and sustainable limits.

It’s a defiant message from Old Trafford: they’re rebuilding—and doing it by the book, with full adherence to PSR regulations.
