New Rangers boss Russell Martin is weighing up a move for Leicester City defender Conor Coady.

The Ibrox gaffer - along with sporting director Kevin Thelwell - has immediately drawn up a list of targets for the new season.

And Record Sport understands Martin is exploring the idea of bringing former England centre-back Coady to Glasgow.

The 32-year-old has a year left on his contract at the King Power but his future is uncertain with the Foxes’ managerial situation up in the air.

Ironically, Leicester wanted Martin to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy but he chose to take on the Rangers job.

Martin was unveiled at Ibrox on Thursday and is now working alongside Thelwell on their summer recruitment plans.

Coady, who has 10 caps for England, is a player who is on their radar.

The Scouser spent eight years at Wolves where he became captain before moving to Leicester for £7.5 million in 2023.

Coady played 22 games in the Premier League last season as the club was relegated back to the Championship.

It’s unclear how much Rangers would have to pay for the ball-playing defender with just 12 months left on his deal.

But Martin is an admirer of Coady, while Thelwell previously worked with him at Everton when he spent a year on loan at Goodison Park.

With Rangers’ Dutch defender Robin Propper rumoured to be on the verge of a return to Holland and Leon Balogun already out the door, the new gaffer is in the market for an experienced centre-half.

And Coady is someone Martin has a concrete interest in.
