Manchester United could be forced to go up against one of their former transfer targets next season, based on a recent transfer rumour.
United are pushing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window, with one new signing already confirmed. Matheus Cunha has been confirmed as a new signing for United after the club agreed to activate the £62.5million release clause in his contract.
Centre-back is a position that United have been linked with potentially strengthening this summer, and one defender that the club may be familiar with could be moving to the Premier League fairly soon.
A report from Caught Offside has claimed that Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle are showing an interest in signing Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae. Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are also reported to be in the running for the centre-back.
It was in the summer of 2023 that United were also heavily linked with signing Kim during his time at Napoli. The South Korea international had just helped the Italian outfit win the Serie A title and quickly became one of the most sought-after players in Europe.
Kim went on to complete a move to Bayern Munich reported to be worth around €50million (£42.2million) ahead of the 2023/24 season. After missing out on the Bundesliga title in his first season, Kim won the league title last term to secure the second league championship of his career.
The report has suggested that Kim will now be valued at €35million (£29.5million) by Bayern this summer. However, there is no mention of United in the report as being one of the clubs interested in signing Kim.
If either Liverpool, Chelsea or Newcastle were to sign Kim then it would likely see United go up against their former transfer target.
The summer of 2023 saw United sign Jonny Evans as the only new central defensive option. It was a year later that United strengthened their centre-back department with the arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, plus the signing of Ayden Heaven from Arsenal back in January.
