Manchester United are not wasting time this summer as Ruben Amorim’s rebuild gathers pace behind the scenes.
With the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and hopes of landing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, the focus at Carrington is firmly on resolving United’s long-standing attacking issues.
A trimmed squad and more disciplined wage structure are part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s long-term vision, with United’s latest financial results confirming a nearly 22% drop in wage expenditure for the quarter ending March 2025.

That wage bill could fall even further next season, especially with players like Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho all expected to be moved on.
The leaner approach to squad management is set to bring the wage bill down to around £285 million — a staggering £80 million less than it was just two years ago.
Amidst these changes, Rasmus Hojlund’s name has emerged as a potential departure.
The Danish striker is now a serious target for Inter Milan, who have made informal enquiries about a possible summer deal.
Although United are not actively looking to sell the 22-year-old, the club are aware of Inter’s interest and may consider cashing in should the right offer arrive.

Rasmus Hojlund joined United from Atalanta for an initial £64 million in 2023, rising to £72 million, but endured a frustrating season last term after a promising start to life at Old Trafford.
The Serie A giants, now set to appoint Cristian Chivu as their new manager, view Hojlund as a priority target and are understood to favour a loan with an option or obligation to buy.
However, United may only entertain a permanent deal in the region of €45–50 million (£38–42 million), in order to reinvest in Amorim’s squad, as per The Telegraph.
Hojlund remains highly rated in Italy after impressing for Atalanta and Inter are not the only club monitoring his situation.
There is acknowledgement in Serie A of the lack of experienced support around the young forward during his time in Manchester, with his development suffering as a result.
Whether Rasmus Hojlund stays or goes, United’s transfer dealings this summer are tightly interlinked with their strategy to reduce the wage bill, maximise squad efficiency, and stay well within PSR regulations.
