Ex Jets Linebacker Arrested In Florida

Police arrested former New York Jets linebacker and current FOX NFL broadcaster Jonathan Vilma this week in Miami, Florida, for driving with a suspended license, according to reporter Andy Slater.

Vilma, 43, was originally stopped because his tag had expired. He had a 10-year career playing in the league, spending his first four seasons with the New York Jets beginning in 2004 when he won the league's Defensive Rookie of the Year honor.

He then joined the New Orleans Saints in the 2008 season after the Jets traded him, becoming an integral piece on the defense that defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super XLIV in the 2010 season.

Vilma has spent the last five seasons as a color analyst on FOX NFL broadcasts while also contributing to college football productions since joining the media sphere.

The network has released any comment at this time and Vilma's status for the upcoming season is not yet known in the aftermath of this incident.

The Jets selected Vilma in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft and No. 12 overall. He played a total of 55 games with the team, not missing a contest through his first three seasons.

He ended his career with 872 total tackles, 10.5 sacks, 10 fumble recoveries and 12 interceptions.

Vilma's success at the professional level stems from a decorated collegiate campaign at the University of Miami (FL), including First-Team All-American recognition in 2003. He is currently a candidate for the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class.
