Federico Chiesa reveals what‘frustrated’ him and sacrifice he made for Liverpool

Federico Chiesa didn’t enjoy the debut season he hoped for at Liverpool. The Italian winger arrived late in the transfer window, had little time to prepare, and found himself struggling for minutes in a team that was already flying high.

Now, Chiesa has given an honest view of what went wrong — and what could come next. He’s not closing the door on staying, but he’s also not ruling out a return to Serie A.

“The year is over. But it’s an experience I would do again,” Chiesa told Corriere dello Sport.

“Soon I will sit down at the table with the club, Fali (Ramadani, his agent) and my family to find the best solution. I wouldn’t mind staying in Liverpool at all.”

Chiesa admitted it was hard to adjust. He arrived at Liverpool on August 26, with no preseason and no time to gel with teammates.

“I found myself catapulted to another planet,” he said. “No friendlies, nothing.”

Federico Chiesa reveals the reason behind his frustration

As if adjusting to a new country and team wasn’t hard enough, Chiesa also had to compete with big names.

He was behind Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo on the left, and Mohamed Salah on the right. That left him hoping for chances as a central forward — a role he played before at Juventus.

He added: “At the beginning I felt the frustration of the radical change and of being far behind the group, then there was the injury.”

Chiesa accepted the situation with grace. “The desire to play was there, I put it aside. I understood the situation. I put aside every form of individualism.”

There’s been no direct contact with Napoli or other Serie A clubs, he said. But the final decision will come after talks with Liverpool.

So, will Chiesa stay and fight for a place — or return home for a fresh start?
