Mayzee Davies ruptures ACL and misses out on WEURO 2025

Manchester City have confirmed that Mayzee Davies has suffered a rupture to her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The young defender sustained the injury while on international duty with Wales during their Women’s Nations League match against Denmark.

Davies was part of Manchester City’s traveling squad and trained regularly with the first team during the [2024/25 season](https://womenfootball.blog/womens-super-league-table-standings/), although she was yet to make her senior debut. Mayzee Davies will now return to the City Football Academy to begin her rehabilitation, which means she will unfortunately miss the Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland this summer.

**Club statement**: “Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Mayzee the very best in her recovery.”

Following the conclusion of the Women’s Nations League, Sarina Wiegman announced her squad for the tournament this summer. A day before the announcement, **Millie Bright shared that she would not be available for selection:**

“This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but after careful thought and discussions with my team, I have decided to withdraw from the selection for the England squad ahead of Euro 2025.

“Football has given me so much, and representing my country has always been my greatest honour. My pride and ego tells me to go but I think the team and the fans deserve more. Right now, I am not able to give 100% mentally or physically.”

A day later, Millie Bright posted a picture of her knee after surgery, “Successful op. Road to recovery begins.”

Arsenal defender Laia Codina has been absent from the pitch since the end of February due to a muscular injury. Despite working hard on her recovery, she was unable to return to full fitness after a series of setbacks.

Codina was initially called up for Spain for the Women’s Nations League but had to withdraw. She wrote on Instagram: “It’s been a tough few days but I’ve had a successful op. Focus turns to getting fully fit and supporting my teammates in the background.”
