Sander Berge reveals agent ‘conversations’ over move to Manchester United

Fulham midfielder Sander Berge has admitted his agent spoke to Manchester United, before his move to Craven Cottage.

[TV2 have an interview](https://www.tv2.no/sport/sander-berges-villeste-uker-satser-pa-at-det-skal-ga-bra/17793579/) with the Norwegian midfielder today in which he admits Manchester United once held talks about him.

The 27-year-old joined Fulham in a €23.55m move from Burnley last year, just a year after joining the Clarets in a €13.9m move from Sheffield United. He had been a regular at for the Blades in his three years there following a €25m move in 2020.

He’s now a key player under Marco Silva for Fulham, making 36 appearances in all competition for his new side this season.

Things could have been very different, though, as before he made the move from Burnley there was talk of interest from Manchester United.

They were busy spending big under Erik ten Hag last summer and reportedly had Berge on their list of potential options. It was a familiar situation for Berge, who had regularly found himself being talked about in every transfer window since joining Sheffield United five years ago.

He hasn’t got that now given his five-year deal at Fulham, meaning he’s comfortable to talk about Manchester United’s interest.

“I’ve entered eight or nine summer windows with uncertainty,” he said.

“From the end of the season until the transfer window closes, you live in no man’s land. It feels comfortable to know that you have landed where you thrive and develop. As a family, we are doing well there.

“It’s a bit crazy, but I was at Burnley training and the days went by as usual – even though things were happening behind the scenes. There were talks (with United), but not directly with me.

“My agent is the one who has that dialogue. But when Fulham came on the field, it became clear to me that it was like that was the right thing to do.”
