Deal or no deal | First offer for Hammers star reported

Another of the [2023 Conference League](https://www.claretandhugh.info/europa-conference-league-final-team-news/) medal winners looks like he could be on his way out of the club as Graham Potters’ rebuild starts to gather momentum: We know that West Ham have to sell in order to buy players this transfer window. With the likes of **Raphael Onyedika and Lucas Stassin** and reportedly on the shopping list, it becomes increasingly important to bring revenue into the club to fund the acquisitions.

News this afternoon of an offer submitted: Marseille, as part of their pretty impressive squad rebuild which includes Hammers’ target Angel Gomes- have apparently submitted a bid to West Ham: [Getfootballnewsfrance.com](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2025/marseille-submit-offer-to-west-ham-defender-nayef-aguerd/) report that:

_“Olympique de Marseille have made a contract offer to **Nayef Aguerd** (29), with the Moroccan defender emerging as a top priority for the club’s defensive overhaul this summer”_ Which will come as a major relief to the bean counters at West Ham United – depending on the terms.

Whilst the club never divulge the details of live negotiations, the terms of Aguerd’s Real Sociedad loan deal were such that the Hammers were still subsidising a whopping chunk of his wages: So on two fronts this could be good news for the Hammers with another salary leaving the payroll.

Of course, all comes down to agreeing terms with West Ham after the ‘contract offer’ to Aguerd. Hopefully, though, this bid will now trigger interest from the other clubs circling:

_“The Moroccan centre-back is understood to be attracted by the club’s project under Roberto De Zerbi and the chance to feature in the Champions League…__Other clubs remain in the race. Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético de Madrid have also shown interest in the 29-year-old”_

Either way it is starting to look less and less likely that the Moroccan will be heading back for a preseason at London Stadium. The hoped-for £25 million plus will also take some of the pressure off the club to rush and accept an early bid for prized asset Mohammed Kudus.
