Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard has admitted he had offers to leave the club, but was convince they weren’t good enough for him.
[Tipsbladet have an interview](https://www.tipsbladet.dk/nyhed/premier-league/har-aldrig-nogensinde-vaeret-bedre) with the 31-year-old today in which he admits he sees no reason to leave Brentford anytime soon.
He’s currently closing in on 200 appearances for the club after joining them in a €3.5m deal from AC Florence in 2019.
He’s been a regular since, joining them as they’ve risen from the Championship and established themselves as a Premier League team year on year.
That’s often meant several of their big name players moving on, with the likes of David Raya going to Arsenal, Ivan Toney moving to Saudi Arabia and this summer seeing Bryan Mbeumo linked with a big money move away.
He, though, isn’t interested in such a move and instead believes the grass is not always as green as it looks on the other side.
“There were opportunities in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, the USA, the Middle East,” he said.
“It wasn’t one of the big clubs, because then I would have liked to try it. It was very sub-top from the big leagues or top in the smaller leagues. For our family, it couldn’t compete with what we already had.
“You often come across players who almost feel compelled to change if they’ve been at a club for a long time.
“If they’ve also done well, they just HAVE to move up to another level. I feel like I’m moving up as a player and person in Brentford, so for me there’s a lot of development to be gained by staying in Brentford. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”
This year has actually seen some development from the midfielder, as he’s moved out of a predominantly defensive role to be more of an attacking threat.
It’s seen him finish with more goal contributions in the season than he’s ever managed before, a fact he’s particularly pleased about.
“I think it is (his best season ever),” he added.
“There have been so many highlights and good matches, and I have really just enjoyed playing football this season, says Nørgaard, who is not alone in that at Brentford.
“I have also spoken to Mikkel Damsgaard about it – he has really blossomed this season too. We agreed pretty quickly that this has been the coolest season we have been a part of.”
