Mike Florio expects the Pittsburgh Steelers to land wide receiver Allen Lazard to pair with DK Metcalf after they signed Aaron Rodgers.
“I fully expect that sooner than later, and no later than training camp, the Steelers will trade for Jets receiver Allen Lazard,” Florio said. “Lazard, I think, is a perfect complement because when he’s with Rodgers, he plays really well. When he’s not with Rodgers, he does not play very well. The question becomes, what do the Jets want?”
Lazard played with the four-time MVP, Rodgers, in Green Bay and New York and is someone Rodgers has become close with over their years together.
Lazard agreed to a reduced deal with the Jets in April to stay with the team. He took an $8 million pay cut to stay with the Jets. According to Over the Cap, Lazard was originally scheduled to make $11.5 million, but he will make just $3.5 million. Only $1.78 million of that is guaranteed.
The Jets would incur about $2 million in dead cap to trade him if it is done post-June 1. For the Steelers, the cost would likely be a day-three selection.
Lazard dealt with a chest injury in 2024 and played just 12 games. In those 12 games, he posted 37 receptions for 530 yards and six touchdowns.
The Steelers signed veteran wide receiver Robert Woods before they traded Pickens. Pittsburgh could still sniff around the veteran wide receiver market to find another answer with Pickens now gone.
