Colts’ Anthony Richardson Gets Injury News on Friday

The Indianapolis Colts have been receiving some unfortunate news on their 2023 No. 4 overall pick, Anthony Richardson, in the past couple of days.

It's been reported that the Colts' quarterback has been dealing with shoulder soreness in his throwing arm.

It's the same shoulder that Richardson got surgery on to repair a Grade 3 AC joint sprain, leading to the quarterback missing a large majority of his rookie season in 2023.

Fast forward to the 2025 offseason, Colts' head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that Anthony Richardson will be missing the team's mini-camp that begins next week with an injury to the same shoulder he had surgery on two years ago.

This news can be seen as very concerning, as Richardson has battled injuries all throughout the 23-year-old's football career, dating back to his time with the Florida Gators in college.

While with Florida, Anthony Richardson went through injuries that included a shoulder sprain, hamstring strain, and a meniscus tear that had the quarterback miss the majority of the Gators' 2021 college football season.

All of these injuries were factored into Richardson's scouting reports, but didn't stop the Colts from taking him in the first round in 2023.

NFL insider provides update on Anthony Richardson return timeline

Despite all of these concerns, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler spoke with Matt Barrie on SportsCenter with new details on Anthony Richardson's status.

"I'm told structurally, this is okay. It's just an implementation and rest soreness type issue. He fully expects to be ready to go for training camp," Fowler said on Friday.

The Colts and Anthony Richardson will look to find some answers for Indianapolis as the NFL season starts in August.

With another quarterback on the roster that's looking for an opportunity to start in Daniel Jones, there's uncertainty in who the starter will be for the Colts in Week 1 as they take on the Miami Dolphins on Sep 7.
