Cowboys Joe Milton Gets Surprising QB Ranking And Goes Viral for Insane Athleticism

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton is not your average backup QB.

Milton stands 6-5, 246 pounds, and has a cannon of an arm. He also possesses supreme athleticism for a man of his size.

Milton recently went viral after a video of him doing a standing backflip in full uniform and gear was posted on social media. (See Mike Fisher's tweet below.)

Milton has only started one NFL game, but his ceiling as a backup quarterback could be through the roof.

SI ranked Milton as the 17th-best backup in the league. ... a surprise in two ways.

First, their thoughts ...

“Some might argue that this ranking is too low for Milton after dazzling in his Week 18 start last season for the Patriots. However, Milton, who went 22-of-29 for 241 yards and two total touchdowns, faced the Buffalo Bills’ backups a week before the playoffs. The Patriots were quick to trade the 2024 sixth-round pick. But the Cowboys were impressed with Milton’s lone start, sending this year’s fifth-round pick to New England to land Dak Prescott’s backup,” the site wrote.

No, we wouldn't argue about "too low'' ... because two weeks ago - maybe unbeknownst to SI - Milton wasn't even the No. 2 QB here.

So No. 17 is a pleasant surprise in that regard.

And one more: At this early stage, "average'' is good enough ... because it's all upside with "Bazooka Joe.''

While being ranked No. 17 is "average,'' Milton still ranked higher than 10 players who drafted in rounds earlier than his sixth-round selection. Some of the names Milton ranked higher than include 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler, veteran fourth rounders Josh Dobbs and Jarrett Stidham, five players who were drafted as second or third-round picks, and former first-round picks Kenny Pickett and Mitchell Trubisky.

Milton has impressed during OTAs and gives the Cowboys a true dual-threat backup quarterback. He will have a great opportunity to learn from one of the league’s best quarterbacks in Dak Prescott this upcoming season.
