Fox Sports NFL analyst and former Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma was arrested this week after driving with a suspended license.
In a story first reported by Fox Sports 640 host Andy Slater and later confirmed by NJ Advance Media, Vilma was driving in Miami on Wednesday when he was pulled over by a Miami Beach Police Department officer because of an expired tag. According to police, Vilma was driving with a suspended license, and when the officer noticed Vilma had an active bench warrant, he was arrested, according to the arrest affidavit.
Vilma’s tags on his white 2023 Mercedes four-door vehicle expired April 30, 2024, and his license had been suspended since Oct. 5, 2023, according to the Miami-Dade County Clerk’s Office traffic court records.
Vilma also was cited for driving a vehicle with a registration that was expired for more than six months, not having proof of insurance, restriction on sunscreen materials, and improper sunscreen at the top of his windshield.
This is not the first time that Vilma has been stopped for allegedly driving with a suspended license. Police records indicate that Vilma was cited for driving with a suspended license on April 16, 2025, on Dade Boulevard in Miami Beach. Vilma did not appear for his court appearance, leading to the issuing of a bench warrant.
In February 2009, Vilma was arrested for resisting arrest, reckless driving and obstruction of justice, but the charges were dropped, according to an ESPN story.
Vilma, who was born in Coral Gables, Florida, and attended the University of Miami, is currently on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame. He was drafted by the Jets as the 12th overall pick in 2004 and was named the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year that season after finishing with 108 tackles, two sacks and eight tackles for loss.
Vilma played a total of four seasons with the Jets, making the Pro Bowl in 2005 before he was traded to the New Orleans Saints in February 2008. During his six seasons with the Saints, Vilma was named to two more Pro Bowls and helped the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts.
