In recent days, Ruben Amorim has been given a brutal reality check by the hierarchy at Manchester United.

Since his arrival in December, Ruben Amorim has been insistent on his Manchester United team having an identity and a prominent philosophy.

Despite the unfavourable results on the pitch, Ruben Amorim’s side have had a clear identity, playing a consistent 3-4-2-1 formation, with two central attacking midfielders supporting a sole striker.

There has been much debate surrounding Ruben Amorim’s style of play and whether his formation of choice is suited to the Premier League.

Manchester United have lost 14 of Ruben Amorim’s 27 Premier League matches so far, only winning 7 of those games. This is very much below the standards he has been rumoured to have set on the training ground and in the changing rooms.

Due to Manchester United’s poor Premier League performances, they found themselves in 15th place come the end of the season, United’s lowest league position in the top flight since their relegation in 1974.

There was a small glimmer of hope for United’s season when the Reds travelled to Bilbao for the Europa League final. However, they came out second best to Tottenham, losing 1-0 on the night and missing out on Champions League football.

According to the Telegraph, Ruben Amorim has been told by United’s bosses that drastic improvement is needed after the club’s worst campaign for more than half a century.

United chief executive Omar Berrada said “we had a difficult season in the Premier League, which we all know fell below our standards and we have a clear expectation of improvement next season.”

It is clear to see that if Premier League results do not improve, United boss Ruben Amorim’s job will be put under an enormous amount of pressure.

With new signing Matheus Cunha coming into the squad and a second bid for Bryan Mbeumo being submitted today, Amorim will be hoping his reds can provide a vast improvement on the poor performances of 24-25.
