Sporting Lisbon ace Viktor Gyokeres reportedly prefers a transfer to Arsenal amid interest from a host of elite clubs, including Manchester United. The 27-year-old Swedish sensation, who has notched up an impressive tally of 95 goals in 100 outings for the Portuguese side, favours a move to the Premier League, with the Gunners topping his wish list over La Liga and Serie A outfits.
With Sporting ready to cash in their prolific scorer for a fee north of £60m, Gyokeres privately would rather Arsenal's offer of Champions League football, a lure Manchester United are unable to match this summer, according to The Mirror. The forward is familiar with English football, having previously played for Brighton and Coventry, and despite keeping quiet on speculation, he hinted at an openness to a change after Sporting's end to the season.
"Let's see," he said. "It's hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what's going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible."
Meanwhile, Arsenal, on the hunt for a new striker, continue to assess various targets with sporting director Andrea Berta engaging in discussions with agents and clubs as Arsenal gear up for a transformative transfer window.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has long admired Newcastle's Alexander Isak, but the Magpies are not willing to let him go. RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko is also on Arsenal's radar, and there are reports from Spain that Berta may return to Atletico for former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.
The Gunners must also consider their budget to ensure they can meet all their targets this summer. They remain optimistic about signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who has a £51m release clause,
Arsenal are also in the market for a left winger, with a long list of potential recruits including Leroy Sane, whose contract at Bayern Munich has expired, and Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams.
Berta has been in extensive discussions with various clubs and agents, and Real Madrid's Rodrygo has been strongly linked, although his price tag could significantly affect other deals.
