'Best placed'– Man Utd legend argues'Class of'92'will now prove harshest detractors wrong over 11-word criticism

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes that Manchester United’s famed ‘Class of ‘92’ stars are ready to make a major impact with their next football-related decision.

Gary Neville was one of the breakout Class of ‘92 stars at Manchester United during the 1990s under iconic former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

The 50-year-old United legend spent his entire club playing career at the Premier League club and enjoyed incredible success before he retired from football in 2011.

Neville was club captain at United under Sir Alex Ferguson and he lifted eight Premier Leagues, two Champions Leagues, three FA Cups and three League Cups.

The former United captain suffered a disastrous managerial spell at Valencia after he retired as a player, but he has found success as a leading pundit in football.

Joining Neville as one of United’s Class of ‘92 success stories at Old Trafford were Phil Neville, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.

Man Utd legend Gary Neville reveals the Class of ‘92 are now ready to hit back at any major criticism over their next big call

The Class of ‘92 not only enjoyed careers on the football pitch as players, but the former Manchester United players have built on their success away from it as well.

Gary Neville, Phil Neville, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt previously came together and owned shares of Salford City alongside Valencia owner Peter Lim.

But Beckham and Neville bought out Salford City from the remainder of the Class of ’92 members and billionaire Peter Lim in May as part of a complete takeover.

The two United legends took control of the club as part of a new consortium, with Phil, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes and Butt no longer minority owners of Salford City.

The former United players also have the University Academy 92 (UA92), which was opened in 2019 in Old Trafford and was co-founded by members of the Class of ’92.

Neville believes that UA92’s first degree in the business of football, which was rolled out this week, has allowed the Class of ’92 to finally enter the world of football without any labels.

“It’s been on our minds for a couple of years,” he told FourFourTwo magazine.

“At the beginning, we didn’t want to be pigeonholed into people thinking, ‘Oh, they’re just a football university with the Class of 92’, so we stayed away from football.

“But what’s become apparent in the last two years is I think we’re best placed to deliver this degree and talk about football, not just with our ownership group of me, Ryan, Scholesy, Nicky Butt and Phil, but also the connections we have in football.”

Neville highlighted the different areas within football and how the UA92, entering the realm of football with an educational qualification, could prove beneficial for many people now.

“We’ve got Altrincham FC, Salford City, Manchester United, the Wheelchair Football Association and the EFL all contributing towards this, which is very bespoke and talks about the different areas of football,” he continued.

“There are so many different areas now within football – football clubs are property developers, they’re concert holders, they have NFL games, they’re content and production units, they’re on documentaries, they deliver YouTube and journalism and magazines.

“If you think of all the jobs now that exist in the sphere of football, you need people who’ve got that passion for the sport, and that understanding of the different areas, from financial to operations, to analytics to fan engagement, to community to the women’s game, to all the things that inform football.”

Neville has continued to build on his media profile with his success with The Overlap and his other non-football ventures, including property development in Manchester.
