CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A former Carolina Panthers star had his latest run-in with the law this week, according to a report.
CBS News reported that former Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was arrested in Richardson, Texas on Wednesday, June 4.
The arrest came after Hardy reportedly assaulted his girlfriend, leaving marks on her. CBS reported that he then allegedly took her car. The news agency said the assault followed an argument and led to Hardy putting his hands around the woman’s throat.
An affidavit obtained by CBS said Hardy claimed he grabbed the woman and put her on the bed after she was poking him in the face during the argument.
He was ultimately charged with assault causing bodily injury of a family member.
The disgraced Panther saw his time with Carolina end after a similar arrest in May 2014 when he was accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend in his Uptown Charlotte condo. The charges were eventually dropped nine months after that arrest.

Hardy played just one game for the Panthers in 2014 before he was placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list. His contract expired at the end of that year and he was not resigned and instead joined the Dallas Cowboys.
The now 36-year-old had his best seasons in 2012 and 2013 when he had a combined 26 sacks. He joined the Panthers in 2010 after the team drafted him in the sixth round out of Ole Miss.
Following his football career, Hardy became an MMA fighter but has not fought an official fight since 2022.
