Superstar forward would prefer move to Arsenal despite interest from Manchester United and other European clubs: Reports

close

Viktor Gyokeres reportedly prefers a move to Arsenal over Manchester United. The Swedish striker also has interest from other European sides but is keen on joining the Gunners.

As per a report in The Mirror, Gyokeres is a target for Arsenal, but they are looking to lure Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig star is their main target as Mikel Arteta has picked him, while the new sporting director wants the Sporting CP star signed.

The Portuguese side are open to selling their star player for a reported £70 million fee. He has a €100 million release clause, but the striker himself admitted that it was too high.

He told Sport Bladet in 2024:

"It (release clause) was probably a bit too much because nothing came of it. Of course it's a lot of money. But we'll see what happens next window. Nothing happened and it feels like I had a pretty good season. So yes, that's probably why there was simply no move. But that's what Sporting thinks I'm worth, and then you have to respect that."

Manchester United want him to reunite with Ruben Amorim but have not made a move yet. They were keen on Liam Delap, but the striker opted to join Chelsea instead.

Arsenal were urged to sign Manchester United target by Bacary Sagna

Bacary Sagna spoke to Metro in 2024 and urged Arsenal to sign Viktor Gyokeres. He claimed that the striker is ideal for the club and can help them win silverware under Mikel Arteta. He said:

"I'd like to see Arsenal go for Viktor Gyokeres – he's amazing. He's a pure striker who would offer some depth to Arsenal. He's also quite tall so whenever the team are out wide, they can cross the ball a bit more and that's been missing a bit for me."

"They need to find a solution in and around the box but sometimes you just need to put it in the box. He'll help them be dangerous from crosses and set pieces and in open play, he's clinical and something different. I trust Gabriel Jesus and I like his work ethic, but you need a bit of everything if you want to be able to compete. You almost need two competitive teams in the squad because there are so many games a season."

Gyokeres scored 39 goals in Liga Portugal last season and assisted 7 times. He also scored 6 times in the UEFA Champions League for Sporting CP.
