Liverpool Vying With Premier League Rivals For Spanish Starlet Who Has £30M Release Clause

Liverpool are among the Premier League teams who have shown a strong interest in Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The Reds have been linked with the 18-year-old before. They were mentioned as potential suitors (along with Chelsea) a few months ago.

However, Estadio Deportivo claim that Aston Villa and Manchester United have also entered the fray since then, with the battle for Rodriguez’s signature intensifying.

Arne Slot’s side and other English clubs could still lose out if they don’t make their move for the teenager soon, as one German club has tabled a formal bid.

Leipzig have made an offer

Estadio Deportivo have confirmed that RB Leipzig have lodged a proposal worth up to €20m (£17m), including add-ons. While the bid is sizeable, it is unlikely to be accepted for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, interest from the Premier League means that Betis will feel they can get more than that for Rodriguez. Secondly, he has a release clause of €35m (£30m) and the Spanish side are minded to hold out for that figure, considering his undoubted potential.

Are Liverpool in the market for a winger?

Considering that the Reds have recently rejected an approach from Barcelona for Luis Diaz, you would think that signing another left-sided forward like Rodriguez is not top of the agenda.

Even so, it should be pointed out that Diaz could still leave if a high enough bid is received, most likely from Saudi Arabia. Bayern Munich have also shown at interest in Cody Gakpo, while Federico Chiesa could return to Italy.

In addition to Rodriguez, the Merseyside club have also been credited with interest in two other wingers, AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Lyon’s Malick Fofana, over the past week.
