**West Ham** have wasted little time licking their wounds after Angel Gomes rejected the club — by lining up an alternative midfield target on a free [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/).
[Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) has learned within the last few minutes that the Hammers are in advanced talks with Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill.
The 29-year-old has just enjoyed a superb season in the Championship with the Clarets and is now available for nothing after running down his contract. This evening, it has been revealed to C&H that terms and a potential agreement have already been discussed with the player — although he does have other options.
However, the likelihood of Brownhill joining West Ham on June 30 has been described to us as “very realistic.”
We understand that talks with the former Manchester United academy graduate were held days rather than weeks ago, and that it’s very much a case of watch this space.
That said, it’s worth noting that Brownhill is not yet eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a domestic club, so technically, anything could still happen.
