Manchester United could be dealt an unexpected boost by Newcastle United this summer to ease PSR concerns.
This year to date has seen plenty of concern around the finances at Manchester United.
The club was said to be in a perilous situation with Ineos cutting costs left, right and centre.
However, when the club published the third quarter fiscal results this week, it saw total revenues increase by 17.4 per cent, which is testament to the work Ineos has done now bearing fruit.
United’s PSR concerns have been exaggerated, as Kieran Maguire has explained, with sales this summer likely to place the Red Devils in a healthy position for the next PSR period.
Now, the worries could be eased even further, thanks to Newcastle United.

Newcastle make Anthony Elanga enquiry
Over the past few years, United have sold several academy players for relatively cheap fees but included sell-on clauses in the deal. This is set to prove valuable with Alvaro Fernandez set to join Real Madrid for as much as £50m with a huge clause.

This is also the case with Mason Greenwood at Marseille, while Newcastle are now beginning to look into a deal for Anthony Elanga.
It comes according to the Daily Mirror, which has claimed that Newcastle have now made an enquiry for the Nottingham Forest winger.
Discussions are at an early stage over the 23-year-old, while Forest will demand a sizeable fee for the Swedish international, with upwards of £50m expected to be required to get a deal moving.
Elanga ticks the priority right-wing position for Newcastle, after Bryan Mbeumo snubbed the Magpies for United. While it will also benefit Ineos financially.
Manchester United could pocket millions from Anthony Elanga sale
Earlier this year, one former United coach said Elanga was the next David Beckham before being sold.
Elanga was sold to Forest for just £15m back in 2023 and has since gone from strength to strength at the City Ground, being labelled a “nightmare to play against” by Gary Neville on TNT Sports, to now be attracting interest from Newcastle.
United have a sell-on clause in Elanga’s sale, however, the value of this is currently undisclosed. Any value will be a welcome boost, with a minimum £50m move seeing United likely entitled to a percentage of the £35m profit.
So a 40 per cent sell-on would be £14m, 50 per cent would be £17.5m, while even 20 per cent would be a welcome £7m boost.
This deal is a win-win for United, with Mbeumo the superior player.
