The English defender arrived at the Turin club in February on a loan deal with the option to make it permanent for £20 million.

Initially believed to be dependent on the Italian side qualifying for Europe, it was later revealed to be for a nominal number of appearances, which was achieved early on.

The versatile player had joined the Magpies on a free transfer from Bournemouth ahead of the 2024/25 season. He only made 10 appearances before going out on loan. He played a further 12 games for the Old Lady as they finished inside the Champions League places.

The Bristol-born player started his career with Bristol City, where he quickly impressed, being named Young Player of the Year in 2017/18. He signed for Bournemouth under Eddie Howe in 2019.

Despite relegation, the club bounced back in 2022 with him acting as vice-captain. After five years at the club, he joined his former boss at St James’ Park.

The north-east club has also announced the departure of Jamal Lewis, who is out of contract.
