Szczęsny set to sign Barca contract despite expected Garcia arrival

Wojciech Szczęsny is set to sign his new two-year contract with Barcelona shortly despite the imminent arrival of Joan Garcia.

The Espanyol goalkeeper is expected to arrive, with Barcelona expected to activate his €25 million release clause next week after reaching an agreement with the stopper.

According to Polish reporter Tomasz Włodarczyk, Garcia’s arrival will not impact Szczęsny at all and he will continue with the club.

Lawyers are working on the last details of his contract before Szczesny puts pen to paper on a new deal until 2027.

The news suggests that Barcelona are planning to have Sczczesny as back-up next season, with Garcia presumably their first choice keeper.

If that is the case, then it seems Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been deemed surplus to requirements and presumably needs to start looking for a new club.

The goalkeeper has said he will be at Barcelona next season, but if he’s not going to play it seems very difficult for him to continue.
