Kings Free Agent Options: Chris Paul

The Sacramento Kings desperately need a point guard. Chris Paul, one of the most highly regarded facilitators of this generation, is headed into free agency.

It’d be a curious move for new Kings’ general manager general manager Scott Perry. The 12-time All-Star played last season with the San Antonio Spurs, where he averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists on 42.7/37.7/92.4 shooting splits in 28 minutes per game.

Appearing in all 82 games at 40 is a credit to his work ethic and sustainability, but there’s a reason he’s spent one-season stops with the Spurs and Golden State Warriors in each of the last two years.

Considering Sacramento’s significant void at this point, Paul’s consistency could be a concern. But his skillset would be undeniably beneficial setting the table for Zach LaVine and Keegan Murray, while also being able to play off of Domantas Sabonis.

Paid just over $3 million from San Antonio in 2024-25, his expected salary could add to the appeal. With Perry’s goal of establishing a culture, Paul’s leadership could aid that cause.

If none of the other long-term point guard candidates in either free agency or the trade market appeal to Perry, maybe a short-term deal with Paul makes sense.

But, of course, it would take two to tango. The offseason is full of options for players and organizations around the league.
