Liverpool transfer news with Florian Wirtz'green light'as Arne Slot nears third deal

Liverpool won the Premier League title with four games to spare and Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes are not wasting any time when it comes to an important summer.

It remains to be seen how many deals Liverpool will do —Jamie Carragher wanted six a few weeks ago — but the Reds will be in a stronger position come mid-August when the new Premier League campaign begins. And as well as bringing in new signings, Slot will also have a full summer to work with his whole roster and further bed in his ideas.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with the latest claims on Florian Wirtz as talks continue to bring the German to Merseyside.

Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen)

Bayer Leverkusen has given Wirtz the "green light" to complete his move to Liverpool, according to Sacha Tovalieri. According to The Times, a new offer worth $153 million (£113 million) in total, including add-ons, has been submitted. That is still slightly short of the asking price.

Wirtz will play for Germany against France in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday. Last weekend, Kicker claimed that Liverpool had seen an offer worth as much as $147 million (£109 million) knocked back, with Leverkusen holding out for more.

Bayern Munich was initially thought to be the leading contender for Wirtz, but that was a couple of weeks ago. Manchester City was in the race at one stage, but has since moved on and looks set to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon.

Liverpool.com says: Wirtz will be a real game-changer for Liverpool if the deal gets over the line. He is already one of the very best players in the world and will only get better with the likes of Mohamed Salah to feed passes into.

Armin Pecsi (Puskas Akademia FC)

It is understood that Liverpool is close to sealing a transfer deal for the highly-rated young Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi as sporting director Richard Hughes continues to put his summer plans into practice.

It comes after already snapping up Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong and a deal last summer, a year in advance, to bring in another hugely exciting goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, from Valencia.

Should the deal get over the line, Liverpool.com understands that Pecsi will initially play for the Reds' U21s side. He will benefit from training with Alisson Becker and Mamardashvili in the meantime.

The fee for Pecsi is understood to be up to around $2.0 million (£1.5 million). The 20-year-old, who is a Hungarian U21 international, kept nine clean sheets in the Hungarian top division last season.

Liverpool.com says: Pecsi is on the Golden Boy list, which is the Italian outlet Tuttosport's comprehensive guide to some of the best young talents in the world. He is rated as the second-best goalkeeper under the age of 21 currently playing Europe's top-flight leagues, which is very impressive.
