Manchester United are looking to make some statement signings this summer
Manchester United are working to add goals to their starting line-up next season as Ruben Amorim aims to address one of his biggest problems at the club.
The Red Devils scored just 44 goals in 38 Premier League games last season, with Everton the only side who were not relegated to score fewer throughout the 2024-25 campaign.
Matheus Cunha has arrived at Old Trafford after his release clause was activated by United. The Red Devils will pay £62.5m to Wolves in equal instalments after completing an agreement last week.
The Brazilian scored 15 goals and provided six assists in the Premier League last season and will give the club a bigger goal threat next campaign. He has been signed with moves for Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres also being eyed.
Man Utd improved bid for Bryan Mbeumo ‘more than £60m’
Manchester World had reported that United were planning an improved offer for Mbeumo after having a deal worth up to £55m rejected by the Bees earlier in the week. Brentford have pointed to Cunha’s £62.5m fee and believe Mbeumo is worth a similar amount.
In a key development, ESPN has reported that the Red Devils have now upped their bid with the “improved offer worth more than £60m” which should be enough to get an agreement over the line. United are looking at a similar payment structure for their agreement to sign Cunha from Wolves.
Mbeumo would certainly be a major figure to help boost United’s goal output. He scored 20 times for the Bees in the Premier League last season while also providing seven assists. Along with Cunha, that is 48 goal contributions between them.
The pair are also proven in the English top flight, which could see them hit the ground running at Old Trafford once the 2025-26 campaign gets underway.
Thomas Frank a big fan of Bryan Mbeumo
United boss Ruben Amorim admitted earlier in the campaign that his side “were starving for leaders on the pitch”. Brentford boss Thomas Frank hailed Mbeumo for his leadership skills previously.
Speaking in 2023 after a win over West Ham United, Frank said of Mbeumo: "I praised him a couple of weeks ago because he drives training with his attitude and work ethic and determination to want to get better and win."
He added: "He's definitely a leader in the making."
United’s signing of Mbeumo could be an impressive one as he has been linked with both Arsenal and Newcastle United - who are both in the Champions League next season. Adding Mbeumo along with Cunha will significantly bolster the Red Devils next season as they look to climb back up the table.
