Everton are keen to fend off interest from Tottenham in star centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.
Branthwaite was a standout performer for David Moyes‘ side as they finished the season on a high, giving Goodison Park a memorable sendoff in the process.
The Toffees are eager to build on their success and have been linked with high-profile attackers like Jack Grealish to kickstart the next campaign with more goals.
The Blues are also looking to bolster their defensive options and have already shown a vested interest in acquiring Jarrell Quansah from their bitter rivals Liverpool.
However, keeping hold of Branthwaite could prove to be just as important as signing new players, which has prompted Everton to react accordingly.

Branthwaite ‘could sign an improved contract at Everton’
Tottenham are particularly keen to bring Branthwaite to North London, especially with Cristian Romero looking likely to leave the Lilywhites.
It would be a bitter blow for Everton to lose their central defender, who has been a stalwart on Merseyside across the last two seasons.

Branthwaite’s Premier League record over the last two seasons
Despite his young age, Branthwaite has emerged as a leader within the ranks and has forged a formidable defensive triangle with fellow countrymen James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford.
For that reason, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that the Toffees would reject an offer from Spurs, instead looking to tie the 22-year-old to a better deal.
“I think Everton would consider an offer from Tottenham,” King said.
“However, I think it would be rejected. This year is important for Everton and Moyes. He has steadied the ship and got them in a decent position in the Premier League.
“They’ve worked hard and got good results since he took over. Therefore, he will be looking for a big start next season, and that isn’t going to happen if Everton allow their best players to leave.
“Branthwaite is under contract. If he stays, I’m sure he will sign an improved contract, and I’d imagine that has already been discussed.”

Everton must build on young stars
In Everton’s recent history, their squad has generally been comprised of older players and has significantly lacked promising young prospects coming through the ranks.
At 22 years old, Branthwaite is the club’s youngest regular starter. Therefore, the Toffees must keep their key players in the right age category and focus more on bringing in and building up talented youngsters.
