Hammer wins extraordinary fitness battle

As almost an aside when the international squads were announced there was a statement from [West Ham](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-hams-risky-business-chelsea-eye-85-million-deal/) confirming in just a few words the end of a huge drama which had taken over one players’ whole life for the last six months.

_‘Michail Antonio named in Jamaica Squad for 2025 CONCACAF Gold cup’_ was the heading.

Although Antonio’s contract will expire in a few weeks and he hasn’t yet agreed to a new one, and yes, although he’s at the tail end of a career and hardly likely to reach the pinnacle of Premier League first choice striker again at West Ham – or anywhere else – the guy deserves absolute respect for going from a quadruple fractured femur with a bolt inserted, to being match fit for his national side in under six months.

Most people would still be struggling to walk properly after that kind of an injury: And before the doomsayers and the negatives pipe up with how cosseted he is and how his expensive healthcare has taken care of him ( as usual whenever I post about him) – I don’t care.

It is something to be celebrated since he almost died and his kids almost lost their dad : Now he’s made it back to international level again. Whatever the future holds for Michail Antonio, I’ve sat and watched him create some amazing memories on the pitch over ten years. His recovery is nothing short of superhuman.

Big respect.
