Everton have been linked with a move for Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson, and have just been given a major update on his status.
The striker is out of contract this summer and has attracted interest from several clubs in the Premier League, including Everton.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract expiring, David Moyes wants to bring a striker to Everton and believes signing Callum Wilson would be a quick win for the Toffees.
The 33-year-old has vast experience in the Premier League, having played for Bournemouth and Newcastle United in the top flight since 2015. However, Leeds are interested in Wilson as they also look to improve their attacking options after promotion to the Premier League.
With Everton eyeing a free transfer for Wilson, Newcastle have issued a fresh update on his future, which could put a stop to Moyes’ transfer plans.

Callum Wilson in contract talks with Newcastle United
In May, Everton News reported that Wilson is open to joining Everton this summer. However, there seems to have been a change of heart with the England international, as there is now a good chance that he will stay on Tyneside for another season.
The striker was seen upset on the St James’ Park pitch following Everton’s win at Newcastle on the final day of the season, suggesting that he was ready to leave the Magpies.
Now, a Newcastle statement has confirmed that they are in talks with Wilson over signing a new contract this summer.

The statement reads: “Callum Wilson and John Ruddy are set to be out of contract at the end of June, however the club has opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts could still be agreed.”
While talks have begun, a deal is yet to be made, so Everton can still negotiate with Wilson to bring him to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer.
Everton linked with Newcastle United ace Sean Longstaff
While signing Wilson looks to be slightly out of reach for Everton this summer, they may return to the negotiating table with Newcastle to sign Sean Longstaff.
Having dropped out of the starting XI following the return of Sandro Tonali, Longstaff is eager for game time. A move away from his boyhood club may be his only option.
Longstaff has been tracked by Everton for months now, and Moyes is finally able to make a move for the midfielder who has 171 Premier League appearances.
While also linked with Thomas Soucek, reports have stated that Everton are more likely to sign Longstaff, who is believed to be available for around £10m.
A minor stumbling block in the deal could be Newcastle’s Champions League qualification. The Magpies need Longstaff to help with UEFA’s squad registration rules.
