Sander Berge has revealed that his agent held talks with Manchester United over a potential transfer last year, before Ineos decided to take a different route with their search for a new midfielder.
Manchester United get linked to an array of footballers each year and this summer it won’t be any different.
Matheus Cunha became United’s first signing of the summer. They have quickly moved on to Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as their next primary target to transform Ruben Amorim’s attacking department in United’s first team.
There is a lot of room for improvement after such a turbulent campaign for the team, which resulted in Erik ten Hag being dismissed in October and replaced a month later by Amorim.
With a new manager in the dugout, United are targeting different targets than what was set by Ten Hag in previous windows. The Dutchman missed out on many targets at Old Trafford, such as Harry Kane and Frenkie de Jong.

Sander Berge’s agent held talks with Manchester United
United were searching for a new midfielder last year, which led to Sander Berge becoming a target for Ten Hag.
Berge is now a key player under Marco Silva at Craven Cottage, making 36 appearances in all competitions in his debut campaign.
“I’ve entered eight or nine summer transfer windows with uncertainty,” Berge told TV2.

“From the end of the season until the transfer window closes, you live in no man’s land. It feels comfortable to know that you have landed where you thrive and develop. As a family, we are doing well there.
“It’s a bit crazy, but I was at Burnley training and the days went by as usual – even though things were happening behind the scenes. There were talks (with United), but not directly with me.
“My agent is the one who has that dialogue. But when Fulham came on the field, it became clear to me that it was like that was the right thing to do.”
Who did Man Utd sign instead of Sander Berge?
It didn’t work out for Berge in terms of moving his career to Old Trafford, but he will be happy with his new surroundings at Fulham after signing a five-year deal.
This saw United step up their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.
Manuel Ugarte has registered the same amount of assists (4) as Salah in European competitions this season.

Ugarte joined United and had a mixed season before being dropped by Amorim for the Europa League final defeat against Tottenham.
We are 12 months on, and United still have problems in midfield.
