Not Frank: Tottenham 'very close' to appointing 'genius' manager to replace Postecoglou

Tottenham are 'very close' to appointing Marco Silva as Ange Postecoglou's replacement, according to Record.

The Lilywhites finally made the decision to sack the Australian coach on Friday afternoon, just 16 days after he led the team to success in the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League, ending a 17-year trophy drought in the process.

It was believed that Brentford boss Thomas Frank was the leading contender for the role, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the club would advance talks in the coming days, but reports in Portugal now claim the club are going in a different direction.

Silva had previously been reported as being one of the top contenders for the role, but at the end of the Premier League season he committed himself to Fulham for the 2025/26 campaign after rejecting an offer from Saudi Arabia.

However, Record report that he is now 'very close' to an agreement with Tottenham that would see him make the move across London to coach in the Champions League next season.

Silva, who has been described as a 'genius', led Fulham to the brink of European football in the 2024/25 season as the Cottagers finished 11th following a late collapse.

He has previously managed Hull City, Watford and Everton in England and has generally done well everywhere he has been, which will now earn him a potential position with a Champions League campaign.

Postecoglou was sacked despite winning the Europa League after a horrendous Premier League campaign in which the north London side finished 17th, with a record-breaking 22 defeats from 38 games. They also reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, while they were eliminated from the FA Cup in the fourth-round by Aston Villa.
