Federico Chiesa makes summer transfer decision as‘priority’revealed

Federico Chiesa looks set to pack his bags this summer — and not for another Merseyside move. After just one season at Liverpool, the Italian forward has made his transfer priority clear: a return to Italy, and that is for one good reason.

Chiesa arrived at Anfield with high hopes and a £12 million price tag. But things didn’t go as planned.

Injuries and limited game time made it hard for him to make an impact. Now, as Liverpool prepares for a busy summer, Chiesa appears ready to head home with a dream of playing in the 2026 World Cup.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news: “Understand Federico Chiesa’s priority for this summer transfer window is to return to Italy. Chiesa loves Liverpool but limited game time an issue and Italian clubs started contacts to be informed on potential deal conditions.”

Where can Federico Chiesa go next?

Napoli are one of the first clubs to show strong interest. The Serie A giants see Chiesa as part of their rebuild after a frustrating domestic season.

Other clubs in Italy are also in touch with the player’s representatives to understand the possible deal.

While Chiesa is still admired by some at Liverpool, especially the scouts who brought him in, it’s clear he no longer fits into Arne Slot’s long-term plans.

The new boss wants players who can stay fit and compete week in, week out — something Chiesa struggled to do in 2024-25.

Competition for spots in Liverpool’s attack is no joke. With Mo Salah, Luis Díaz, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo all ahead in the line-up, Chiesa rarely got a real run. Even when healthy, minutes were hard to come by.

Back in Italy, though, clubs believe he still has the quality to shine — if given the chance. And with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Chiesa knows regular starts are a must.
