PFF names B.J. Hill the Bengals’ most underrated player

Who is the Cincinnati Bengals’ most underrated player?

Pro Football Focus’ Jonathon Macri believes the answer to that question is defensive tackle B.J. Hill.

Hill has been a mainstay for the Bengals ever since he was acquired via trade days before the 2021 season from the New York Giants in a deal that sent center Billy Price to the Meadowlands.

In four seasons as a Bengal, Hill has recorded 16.0 sacks, 53 quarterback hits, and has had strong postseason performances. As a result, he has inked two different three-year extensions, including signing a three-year $33 million deal this offseason.

Despite being a solid contributor, Hill often gets overlooked due to the Bengals’ star talent on offense.

“Hill is coming off his second-best PFF overall grade as a member of the Bengals since 2021, earning a 70.2 mark, which ranked in the top 25 mark for the position in 2024,” Marci wrote.

“Hill’s strength at this point in his career is as a run defender, where he posted an 18th-ranked 69.2 PFF run-defense grade this past season. On 273 run defense snaps, Hill delivered a 9.3% run-stop-rate — another top-20 mark and an impressive feat for a defensive lineman heading into Year 8.”
