Andy Robertson was on the receiving end of some fairly harsh criticism as the 2024-25 Premier League season went on.
Indeed, Liverpool’s need for a new left-back is fairly high this summer, with Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas failing to live up to the standards they’ve set over the last few years.
And, even though the Scotsman may not have been at his best, it feels harsh for fans to want him out, especially when all that he’s done for Liverpool is taken into account.

But, with the transfer window now open and the rumour mill starting to turn, there’s no knowing what could happen to the left-back in the future.
Steve Clarke hits back at fans saying Andy Robertson has got worse this season
Robertson has been one of Scotland’s most important players for as long as many can remember.
The left-back has been one of the best in the Premier League, and when playing for Scotland, he can often be a different animal.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference for their friendly against Iceland, Steve Clarke gave his thoughts on what he thinks lies ahead for Robertson amid their recent links with Milos Kerkez.
“If Andy decides to stay and fight for his place, I’m sure he’ll play enough,” he said in quotes summarised by Yahoo Sports.

“He had to fight so hard to have a career and to build on that.
“I don’t see a decline in him. I see him coming here and playing well, and I’ve watched him a number of times for Liverpool, and I didn’t see any drop.
“Alex McLeish made a big decision when Andy was quite young and not long in the squad to make him the captain. When I came in, I saw no reason to change that captaincy, and he’s been a fantastic captain for Scotland.”

Liverpool must keep hold of Andy Robertson for the 2024-25 season
With Tsimikas having interest shown in him from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Juventus, it’s clear to see that his future lies away from Anfield.
The Reds’ move for Kerkez also seems to be going smoothly, even if the negotiations are taking a little longer than most would like them to.
But, with Robertson having just one year left on his deal at Liverpool, it doesn’t make all that much sense to get rid of him, especially when Kerkez comes in.
The Hungary international is just 22 years old, and while he may still be a stellar talent, there’s still plenty more that he could learn.

And, to be quite frank, there isn’t a much better way for him to do that than by learning from one of the Reds’ best left-backs of all time.
Of course, upon the expiry of his contract next season, he’s likely to leave, but with the way things seem to be headed for Liverpool in the transfer market, having some sort of stability among the team could end up proving quite useful.
