Everton handed mixed Jack Grealish verdict after 'favourites' named to complete transfer

Everton supporters have been having their say over Jack Grealish after the Blues were named favourites to sign the Manchester City player

The revelation that Everton are joint favourites to sign out-of-favour Manchester City star Jack Grealish has got tongues wagging among the Blues fanbase. Accompanying an opinion piece on the situation, this correspondent posed the question on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “A potentially ambitious statement of intent from The Friedkin Group or a throwback to the costly days of profligacy that dogged Farhad Moshiri’s tenure, where do you sit when it comes to Everton being favourites to seal a transfer deal for Jack Grealish?”

So far, there have been 137 responses with a selection of comments below. Embedded within the article was also an online poll which asked “Would Jack Grealish be a good signing for Everton?” Over 1,000 readers cast their votes and at the time of publication, the score was 42% ‘yes’ and 58% ‘no.’

Here are some of Evertonians’ comments on the matter...

@clements2016

I’ll be amazed if Everton pull that off. He’d be the best player in the squad by a country mile.

@goodison2

Great player can play in the middle or out wide. He is the kind of player we need. We will qualify for the Champions League if we sign him.

@mthompsoneditor

He needs football. We need creative attacking players. He seems like a person who would fit in to the club too. I’m all for it.

@ElliottMcD16

If we could get him on a loan and City pay a decent portion of the wages it’s a good signing he’d be our best player comfortably.

@bullens288

Watched him many times at Villa, excellent player who would improve us. And from what I have seen with his interactions with fans a decent bloke.

@Stelboy

I’m all over it. Top player. Just not working for pep for whatever reason. Suits Moyes attacking style in the wide areas. Top signing if they make it happen.

@GarveySte

Yes. He is better than the players we have. We have to bring better players in or nothing will change. Moyes will be all over the top 4/5 clubs in each league looking for players that are not starting to buy or loan.

@BargeTours

It makes no financial sense for us and Grealish himself would probably want to go to a CL club so how we are joint favourites with Napoli (!) God knows.

@malincrete Great attacking player at Villa, doesn't suit City's sideways passing football, could be good under Moyes.

@jim_blott I don’t think we can be favourites but there is no doubt Grealish is a top quality player and would probably be more suited to our style of play than City’s. I would love him at the club.

@MMANightmareS Get him in! He will be a star! Top player and would make us serious.

@Thomas33466234 It will be a hell of a statement, the lad’s quality.

@MiMikebish1 Not us hopefully. Bang average.

@MarkMt1878 Can’t see this happening. We need a number of players and can’t afford to use so much of the budget on one player.

@Hawkys74 Depends on the wages and overall cost. I think it's what he needs to move away from City to recapture the form we know he's capable of.

@DomCahillane If the wages are right it's a no brainer.

@TonyBrookfield3 Really like him as a player isn't appreciated enough. He gets you up the pitch and is creative.

@Jackie1roberts Unlike the last owner, this is a player who plays for one of the top clubs and isn’t past his prime.

@TheBun7 Not at this stage in our rebuild, use the resources to get 2/3 players in rather than all eggs in on Grealish basket.

@OriginalBillo He'd be great for us.

@RobertoBirquet No. Find the next Grealish if he wants to come to an Everton, expect Everton wages.

@notaaronsmith If City take on a bit of his wages then for sure we should take him. Would be the best player in the attacking squad immediately.

@GaryWashbourne I think he is a good player, just not a Moyes type player. Not sure he works hard enough for Moyes and has question marks defensively.

@phillyt1878 I really like Grealish but in our situation & money he probably wants it’s too much of a risk for us at the start of a rebuild. The idea of his talent being coached out of him might work with DM letting play a more natural game but if it not we are left with an expensive flop.

@CrazyCraven01 Unlike before he would definitely improve the team made a bad career move going to City.

@alanfow80984512 It’s a no from me. Someone who’s been happy to sit on the bench for ages doesn’t seem like the young ambitious footballer we’re supposed to be targeting.

@SAlBundyi He's the Gazza of this generation with all the baggage. Steer clear. Make strong declarations elsewhere.

@Ianc1878 We are too close to PSR to be employing someone on over £200,000 a week and will probably cost north of £50m.

@MichaelSporty Midfield the key area to strengthen. If he’s available at fair price/wages then it’s a no brainer. He knows the league, has great mentality and has experience playing in top, top fixtures. Just please, please don’t over-spend. Our 2017 transfer window still haunts me!

@1BearTruth Season long loan with City covering half his wages would be a decent deal if this were negotiable...

@Ems03700691 Match fit Grealish walks into most Prem starting 11s. Not sure why it’s gone wrong at city. Too much, too young, who knows, but he’s a baller and if we can get him on loan for a season, it would be a huge coup.

@RyderSezLesbos Grealish isn’t an Everton type player. Drop the idea. I’d still prefer Barkley to Grealish.

@DTM1878 We need a sustainable long term transfer policy. Atletico Madrid, Brighton, Atalanta and the like seem to be well ran clubs. This should be a priority over any individual superstar names.

@IamFidgell Obviously a talented player and exactly what Everton need, but just can’t see how a deal could be agreed. His wages are massive.

@DanielCullingt2 Jack Grealish is the kind of player that drifts in and out of games. He is not a potent striker that we need and is not worth the money.

@GrahamDavies4 Complete waste of money he is a luxury player who needs a free role and we are not good enough to be carrying anyone and his wages are going to be ridiculous and off the pitch he has all the worst traits of the modern English player an absolute no from me.

@adyady14 It’s a definite no from me. Too old. 24 and under for anyone coming in this season. Just scout properly instead of handing out contracts like confetti.

@mickmcSNB Huge fan of Grealish, I think he's a cracking player and would look something like the old at Everton, but it’s a huge gamble for the money on a loan and wages but think it's a gamble worth taking. instantly improves us going forward, commercial wise and throws a statement of intent.

@JimmyCarty65 Made the wrong move going to cCty. A flair player a maverick couldn’t fit into Pep’s pass, pass, pass and pass again style. Likes to take people on then do it again rather than pass. Stifled him a bit. We’ve got Ndiaye so a big no from me. + his wages.

@gbgreecearis Everton faced with Grealish's allure, art meets ambition. Hope they don't stumble into spending pitfalls of yesteryears. Strategic foresight needed now more than ever!

@Dane4Blue He'd be brilliant for us......kept Villa up on his own. He's been scorned and will want to prove a point. We're a great club for those kind of players. We had the proverbial beaten out of us fans over the past 5 years and more. The attitude and edge is back. Grealish would thrive

@AnnaHam58112376 I’d be over the moon. He’s a fantastic footballer who needs to play but he’s just so Everton in the way he interacts with fans and seems to be a genuinely lovely, down to earth working class lad.

@KevMcDempster Just no. Can't imagine Moyes would sanction it. He's been a great player but never was blessed with the pace the team desperately needs. And not comparing but doesn't Ndiaye do what Grealish does?

@greenie1878 Based purely on the player and not the PSR let’s say I’d love to have Grealish at Everton. Top quality player, excuses positive vibes, improves the team and I imagine would be great in the dressing room. And he’s clearly a good guy to boot. Can’t see it happening but I’m ‘in’.

@nebula1979 Not priority positions (LW/AMC). Would cost a minimum £10m loan fee + £7.5m in wages (50% contribution). That would all go on the 24/25 PSR calculation + he'd have to be replaced in a year as the club could not sign him permanently.

@TomFox87 Another statement of intent signing, is it? Made too many of them. You never see Brighton, Palace or Brentford make these signings and for good reason. Let's not be a rubbish dump of Sky 6 rejects again

@mattyrei1878 He is a top level player… a loan with good terms on his wages makes huge sense. Think of the amount of fouls he wins alone… our set piece numbers are already right up there, think of the threat we could cause.

@MRoche1987 Ndiaye and McNeil are two of your better attackers, would be better looking at a right sided player plus R or L full back for the same money.

@I_am_Rooster I like Jack but unless we have money to burn (we do not due to PSR) then this would be a foolish investment of our constricted funds & definitely a Moshiri era type of signing. Would rather three younger players with potential that fit Moyes plan. Build for the long term!
