Aston Villa are keen on defensive midfielder Valentin Atangana, according to a report.
German newspaper Bild, via Sport Witness, claim Villa are one of a list of clubs interested in the Reims player described as a ‘super talent’.
Villa are on their list, as are West Ham, Lazio, Fiorentina and – which is where the Bundesliga relevance comes in – Eintracht Frankfurt.
It is claimed Eintracht have an advantage because they are the only club able to offer Champions League football, after Villa missed out in such cruel fashion on the final day of the season.
Whilst that could be mere speculation, what does seem likely is that Atangana will leave the French outfit after they were relegated from Ligue 1 last season.
The 19-year-old was born in Cameroon before moving to France as a child. He joined the Reims youth set-up in 2015 before progressing to the first team and the French age-group set up, recently playing for the France Under-21s.
He has made 63 first team appearances in all, with 33 league starts coming last term. Bild claim he would be available for a fee of around €10m.
Villa currently have plenty of options in deeper midfield positions, with Boubacar Kamara, the outstanding Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley all front-line options. John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey could also operate there.
They have also been linked with Stoke City starlet Sol Sidibe and are also targeting Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan.
