Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are “negotiating the final details” for a deal to bring Florian Wirtz to Anfield, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.
Since Arne Slot guided Liverpool to their second-ever Premier League title, in what was his debut season in English football, the Reds have wasted little time to ensure they are well-positioned to defend their trophy. Trent Alexander-Arnold has joined Real Madrid and in his place, Liverpool have signed Jeremie Frimpong.
Slot’s side have also been linked with a move for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who looks set for a move to Anfield this summer. With his full-back targets all but acquired, Slot also wants to bolster Liverpool’s creative options and in recent weeks, it has been clear that Liverpool are targeting Florian Wirtz.
Now, it would seem that the Merseyside club are close to agreeing a deal for the sensational playmaker.

According to Plettenberg, Liverpool and Leverkusen only need to thrash out the “final details” of a transfer for Wirtz before it becomes official. The Reds have already made two bids for the midfielder that were rejected, with Plettenberg stating that Liverpool’s third offer is expected to be worth over £125 million as a total package.

To date, Wirtz has spent his entire career with Leverkusen. At just 22 years old, the German is thought of as one of the best number 10s in the world, made all the more impressive when it is considered that Wirtz suffered an ACL injury in 2022.
Wirtz, who has been described as "elite," enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season, just one year after being a key factor in Leverkusen winning an unbeaten domestic double under Xabi Alonso’s management. All signs point to Wirtz being a Liverpool player by the end of the summer, with Plettenberg noting that a medical for him could “take place next week” if all goes as expected.
