Exclusive: Where Nottingham Forest stand on selling Anthony Elanga amid ‘major interest’ from…

Nottingham Forest have plenty of star assets attracting the interest of rival clubs, with Anthony Elanga’s potential switch to Newcastle United the latest rumour.

Newcastle are interested in Elanga once again this summer, but Nuno Espírito Santo will also be worried about the futures of Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who are continuously linked away from the City Ground.

Hudson-Odoi is wanted by Napoli, while the ongoing race for Gibbs-White’s signature has been more complicated, with Man City first interested, but now Chelsea are keeping an eye on Gibbs-White.

With rumours only continuing to intensify, Nottingham Forest News spoke exclusively to transfer expert Graeme Bailey to learn where the club stands on selling Elanga and his star teammates.

How Nottingham Forest feel about selling Anthony Elanga

Forest are comfortable in terms of PSR, but while a major sale isn’t necessary, it would of course leave the club in an advantageous financial position in the long term as well.

However, Bailey told Nottingham Forest News that, in the case of this summer, Evangelos Marinakis won’t be forced into parting ways with any of his prized assets.

He said: “Nottingham Forest are a team on the rise, they really have no plans to sell a host of their star names this summer. Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Elanga – there are so many, and rest assured that Forest don’t want to sell and don’t need to.

“That being said, there is major interest. Newcastle are long-term admirers of Elanga, they tried for him last year and they remain interested.

“We could well see one of Forest’s big names go, but to get any one of them we are talking big money – there will be no easy deals at the City Ground for anyone wanting one of their star turns.”

Forest fans will be breathing a sigh of relief at their club’s defiant attitude to transfers this summer, with Marinakis’ astute dealings putting the Reds in a position of strength.

Evangelos Marinakis deserves credit for his management of Nottingham Forest

Putting outgoings to one side, Forest are set to complete a triple-signing from Botafogo, with Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha and Cuiabano ready to make the switch to the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest News learned that the club will only pay £33.6m for the three Brazilians, a potentially remarkable bargain that emphasises Marinakis’ excellent financial management of the Reds.

The Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations have added a new level of intrigue to the transfer market.

Forest have a projected £85m safety net in terms of PSR this summer and across last season, Forest had a net spend of only £16m, an incredible feat considering how much progress was made on the pitch.

Clubs in the Premier League and further afield have been put on notice: If they want to sign any of Espírito Santo’s top stars, Marinakis will demand an eye-watering fee.
