**Lifelong Newcastle United fan and defensive stalwart Dan Burn has been living his dream for the last few years playing for the club he supported as a boy.**
The 6'7" defender was born in Blyth and had a season ticket for Newcastle United growing up. When he became a professional footballer, of course, his dream was to represent his beloved Magpies, but when the Saudi-backed takeover went through and the rumours of the club signing the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe dominated the headlines, Burn thought his chance had gone.
Enter Eddie Howe, who spent big in his first transfer window, but didn't sign any big names, instead opting to bulk out the squad with grafters who could turn the club around, one of which was Dan Burn who he snapped up from Brighton for £13 million.
The move raised a few eyebrows, but it has proved to be a shrewd bit of business by Howe as Burn has become an integral part of the Newcastle United machine. And let's not forget he scored the goal that set Newcastle on their way to ending their 70-year domestic trophy drought.

Dan Burn was recently handed the freedom of Northumberland

As a Newcastle fan and an influential player, Burn has almost become a mouthpiece for the club and is often sought out for interviews.
However, his latest interview with Look North came about after the Blyth giant was handed the Freedom of Northumberland following his stunning header at Wembley, which was followed up by his first England cap at 32 years old.
It was a different game at Wembley that Burn was asked about by Look North (via [The Shields Gazette](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/dan-burn-newcastle-united-sunderland-premier-league-derby-5164396)) that produced an insight into the Burn family household.
'You're a liar': Dan Burn's dad let his true colours shine through

Sunderland beat the odds, defeating Sheffield United at Wembley to gain promotion to the Premier League and Burn was once again asked his feelings on their victory. He reiterated his claim that he wasn't bothered either way, but when his dad said the same, he caught him out moments later.
> "I had this conversation with my dad, I rang my dad and said: 'I wouldn't be fussed, if Sunderland come up then great we get the derbies if not then great, keep them in the Championship!'
>
> “My dad was like 'yeah same,' then a minute in Sheffield United nearly scored and I could hear him jumping up and down and I was like 'nah, you're a liar!'”
