At Bright Side of the Sun, we’re always in search of passionate and insightful voices to join our team. Whether you’re an aspiring journalist aiming to build your career or a devoted Phoenix Suns fan with compelling thoughts, bold opinions, and a deep love for the game, there’s a place here for you. Maybe you have plenty to say in the comment section. Why not make your point in an article?
We believe that the Suns' story is best told through a chorus of diverse perspectives. From the fans who live and breathe the purple and orange. If you have something to say, we want to hear it. Err...read it.
This is your invitation. If you’re ready to share your voice with a community of Suns fans, click the button below and submit your application to contribute.
Let me level with you.
Here at Bright Side of the Sun, I’m not recruiting employees. I’m not handing out quotas. I’m not dangling assignments or traffic goals or any of that corporate news-factory garbage. What I’m looking for are volunteers. People with fire in their gut and something real to say about the Phoenix Suns, but want to do so on their own time at their own pace. If you’ve got the will to write, to think deeply, to rant, rave, or just reflect on this maddening, magnificent basketball team, then I’m listening.
There are no rules here except one: say something worth reading.
If you ask anyone who’s written under me since I took over as managing editor, they’ll tell you I keep it simple. I don’t hover. I don’t micromanage. I communicate behind the scenes the same way I do on the mic: direct, supportive, and trying like hell to help anyone who’s willing to string a few thoughts together find their voice.
Truth is, I never thought I’d be here.
I’ve always been a writer at heart. Back in 2003, when I first joined the military, I had the chance to go into broadcast journalism. But I would’ve had to wait six months to ship out, and that meant basic training in the dead of winter somewhere cold and miserable. I’m a southwestern kid. Winter and I don’t get along. So I became a cook instead. I figured girls like a guy who can cook. In hindsight? Probably not the best career move. Should’ve gone with journalism. But hey, hindsight’s undefeated.
Still, the itch to write never left. I hung around the old CBS Sports message boards, dropped my takes when I could, and on an off-day in 2019 I finally said screw it. I launched a Suns blog. Then a podcast. “The Solar Report”. I had no audience, no plan, just a need to express something. A spark.
That spark turned into a shot. Dave King saw what I was doing. He saw the obsession, the consistency, the joy in the grind, and he handed me a bigger platform. Not because I was a trained journalist, but because I cared. That’s something he and I have always had in common. We don’t do this for a paycheck. We do it because we love the game, the chaos, and the community that comes with it.
So here I am, extending the same hand to you.
If you’re trying to break into journalism, and you just need a place to start — like Kellan Olson did, like Evan Sidery did — this can be your first byline. If you’re just a fan who likes to write now and then, that’s great too. Maybe you like breaking news. Maybe you like twisting headlines into something fresh. Maybe you’re more about film breakdowns, deep dives, or just cracking jokes. However your brain works, I’m here for it.
Whatever your style, if you’re interested, I’m interested in you.
So go ahead. Hit that button above and submit an application. Let’s see what you’ve got. And to everyone who takes time out of their day to read what I write or listen to the podcast: thank you. Every single time I get to talk about this team that drives me crazy, I recognize how lucky I am to have your attention, even for a few minutes.
Let’s keep building something together.
