Huddersfield Town Join Race For Crystal Palace Goalkeeper

Huddersfield Town have reportedly joined the race to sign Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman.

The Terriers are one of several clubs interested in the 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan with AFC Wimbledon.

Bolton Wanderers are another side interested in signing the goalkeeper, rivalling Huddersfield for Owen Goodman’s signature.

This is according toFootball League World, who also reported it would be a loan deal for Goodman.

How did Goodman fare last season?

Goodman played a crucial role under manager Johnnie Jackson last season, helping the Dons win promotion to League One through the play-offs.

The 21-year-old was a key figure for Wimbledon last season, playing all 46 games in League Two, keeping 21 clean sheets and averaging two saves per game, helping guide the Dons to a play-off spot, finishing fifth.

Goodman carried on his form into the play-offs, keeping a clean sheet in both semi-final matches against Notts County and another in the final against Walsall, with the Dons winning 1-0 to gain promotion to League One.

Goodman was also a consistent starter for Jackson’s side in cup competitions, playing all five FA and Carabao Cup matches.

Overall, Goodman made 53 appearances for Wimbledon in all competitions, keeping 25 clean sheets and playing a crucial role in the Dons’ promotion to League One.

Huddersfield join race for Goodman.

According toFootball League World, Huddersfield have joined the race to sign Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman.

The Terriers are one of several clubs in the EFL interested in signing Goodman, with Bolton Wanderers being another.

It was also reported that it would be a loan deal for the 21-year-old as he looks to prove himself at a higher level.

This would be Goodman’s third loan move, having had previous loans with Wimbledon and Colchester United in League Two.

Would this be a good signing for Huddersfield?

The Terriers had a difficult first campaign in League One after their relegation from the Championship, finishing the season in 10th, 14 points off the play-offs.

Under new manager Lee Grant, Huddersfield may look to build on this difficult campaign, climb up the table and fight for promotion.

One way they could do this is by signing a new goalkeeper. The Terriers struggled to have a consistent starting keeper, with neither Lee Nicholls nor Joe Chapman cementing their place between the sticks.

One keeper who could come in and be the first choice is Owen Goodman, who has shown his quality between the sticks.

Goodman was one of the standout loans last season in League Two, keeping 21 clean sheets, averaging two saves a match and having a save percentage of 72.

The 21-year-old may look to make the step up in his career after two impressive loan spells in League Two, making 203 saves and keeping 25 clean sheets in 93 appearances.

This could be a brilliant signing for Huddersfield. Goodman kept the second most clean sheets (25) in all competitions in the top four divisions of English football last season, with only James Trafford (29) keeping more; having a keeper with this shot-stopping ability and record of keeping clean sheets could be an improvement on their current keepers and help them fight for promotion.

It will be interesting to see if Huddersfield can sign Goodman and if he could help Lee Grant’s side climb the table.
