Why Barca aren’t thinking about reigniting Williams interest

Nico Williams excited many Barcelona fans this week with a thrilling performance for Spain against France alongside the likes of Pedri and Lamine Yamal.

It led us to ponder why he’s not back on the agenda this summer, particularly with Barcelona eager to bolster their attack in the transfer window.

According to Diario Sport, Barca simply aren’t thinking about going back for Nico and he’s not on their list of priorities for this summer.

One factor is that Barcelona’s relationship with Athletic Club has been damaged by their pursuit of the Spain star last summer.

The Basques always thought Barcelona wouldn’t be able to register Williams and didn’t appreciate the Catalans continuing to go after him despite their financial uncertainty.

The report also claims that Barca are continuing to prioritise moves for Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford this summer and definitely not Williams.

All of which means Williams does have a decision to make on his future. He has interest from Premier League clubs but it’s thought he isn’t keen on a move abroad, meaning a renewal at Athletic may be on the cards.
