Anthony Gordon has bromance with Liverpool star after failed transfer attempt

Newcastle's Anthony Gordon and Liverpool's Curtis Jones have spoken about their close friendship away from the pitch.

The pair are currently away with England on international duty as Thomas Tuchel's side prepare to face Andorra this afternoon before heading to Wembley to face Senegal on Tuesday. Jones and Gordon have been close friends since their days together in the academy. Although Gordon’s time at Liverpool didn’t pan out as hoped, both players have since built impressive careers in the Premier League.

Gordon reportedly came close to joining Liverpool in 2024. Although he signed a new contract earlier this season, rumors of a potential return to Merseyside persist. The England international, who developed through Everton’s academy, has openly expressed his lifelong support for Liverpool — a fact that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Reds fans.

In a recent interview with ITV Sport Jones and Gordon revealed how much time they spend together while away with England.

When asked Gordon said: "Probably ever second, I think unless we're in our rooms showering after training, we're together" before Jones chimed in adding: "Or asleep, that's it we're just away from each other then."

Gordon added: "We don't go in our rooms thats a rule. No matter what if we're not training or not in a meeting, we're not in our room. Sometimes we just sit like this talking for hours, sometimes we'll be winding people up ."

When asked whose name comes first, the pair speak at the same time saying "Jones and Gordon", citing the reason being that the Liverpool midfielder is the oldest.

In a recent interview with British GQ, Jones was asked if he had any friends in football outside of the pitch, to which he responded with: “Anthony Gordon is probably my only best mate in the football world.

"He’s trying to change me, saying, You’re a dad now, you need to be more mature with how you dress."

Asked if he has taken the Newcastle winger's advice, the 24-year-old added: "Yeah, I’ve invested in a classier vibe and look now. At first I started out saying I could never dress like that, but the more he was around me, explaining how he felt, I was like, Oh, OK, OK. I guess it’s good that I can play both sides, you know what I mean?”

If Liverpool were to enter the race for Gordon, they’d likely be favourites given his childhood connection to the club.

However, any move to Anfield might depend on whether the Reds choose to sell Luis Diaz, which seems highly unlikely given the fact the Reds rebutted an approach from Barcelona for the Colombian earlier this week.
