Crystal Palace eye long-standing Newcastle United target as replacement for Marc Guehi

ยท 7 June 2025, 14:30

**Newcastle United seem determined to get their man after missing out on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi last summer.**

The transfer saga that felt like it would never end finally did when Palace co-owner Steve Parish pulled away from talks the day before transfer deadline day.

Parish had been stringing Newcastle along with false hope all window before walking away from negotiations, leaving Newcastle no time to find an alternative.

A year later, the power is in Newcastle's hands with Marc Guehi entering the final year of his Crystal Palace contract. If Steve Parish wants to recoup some money for the 24-year-old, he pretty much has to do it now.

Ousmane Diomande is on Crystal Palace's wishlist

Crystal Palace want Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande to replace Marc Guehi

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now it seems as though that could be the case as [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-marc-guehi-go-31808835) are reporting that Crystal Palace are already looking at Guehi's replacement.

It's a name that should be familiar to Newcastle fans, as the Magpies have been linked with a move for Sporting's Ousmane Diomande many times in the past.

Several other high-profile clubs have been keeping tabs on Diomande, but reports suggest that Crystal Palace could be the first to make a move.

We don't expect Ousmane Diomande to head to Crystal Palace

----------------------------------------------------------

It would be an impressive coup for the Eagles, especially with clubs like Arsenal also in the hunt, so Newcastle shouldn't be putting all of their hope on Guehi, depending on Crystal Palace signing Diomande. Of course, Palace do, for the first time ever, have the carrot of European football to dangle in front of potential signings which will give them a boost.

If Newcastle really want Guehi, then they need to be proactive and let Palace worry about replacing him after he's gone, not looking for a sign that the deal could be done because they've signed someone else.

We're sure that's not what they're doing, and the gist here is that Palace are preparing for life without Guehi, but where's the contact from Newcastle? Where's the bid? Why are we so slow when it comes to transfers?
